We believe the way Canadians are being treated by the current wireless industry is unfair. This is why we think what we're trying to achieve with Free the North is so important.
The wireless industry in Canada is dominated by three major companies. Prices are fixed high and competition is virtually absent. And it’s been this way for years. Whenever a new mobile company comes in, the big three either buy them up or bully them out, leaving Canadians with little to no option to the ridiculously high wireless rates we are charged.
Consider that in Hong Kong, you can get a month of unlimited mobile data for the price of a hamburger combo. Or that in Denmark, 20GB of data costs a quarter of what Canadians typically pay. And even in light of the geographic-size argument used by the big Canadian mobile companies to justify their high rates, Australia is able to offer their citizens much more affordable rates across their vast landscapes.
So that’s why we say enough is enough. It’s time to take action. It’s time to spark a positive change in this industry. It’s time speak up for Network Sharing.
In order to make this a reality, we’re going to have to show that there’s a lot of people interested in a project like this. We need to gather a lot of support from the people and build some momentum. This is the first step.
